"What
on earth could this page be?", I hear you asking yourselves. Well, I
thought it might be fun to have a page with anecdotes and stories from
our experiences with babies and children. There are also so many baby
and child products available now, so I wanted to look into their
history, development, use and so on. To begin with, I'll start with my
own experiences as a first time mother but I'd love to include your
opinions and stories, so please email them to me. The objective is a
fun and informative 'baby and child' page!
Baby Reasoning
My
son is a very good debater. He learned to talk whilst still a baby
really since we learnt sign language together from when he was 7
months. At age 1, he started using his first signs and after that there
was no stopping him. Consequently, I never had any of the issues that
arise from parents not understanding their baby. As Sebastian has grown
older - he is now just 3 - his language developed really fast to the
point that aged a little over 2, he was already able to use logic to
effectively get what he wanted. I was aware of it but the first
'classic' baby logic to come out of his mouth was: "my legs need some
white stuff mummy” after eating a strawberry ice cream and wanting a
vanilla one!
Toddler Fitness
My baby is now
three and he is a total fan of "superheroes". I'm not quite sure where
that came from but perhaps from watching the film called 'The
Incredibles'. Since then, my baby has all the actions associated with
cartoon characters running, his arms swinging back together so he can
run faster! He has also increased his jumping on and off things and
occasionally ends up in funny postures doing his 'exercises'. These, by
the way, are based upon Sportacus from the CBeebies programme, Lazy
Town. I'm not complaining though because how many toddlers do you know
who eat fruit all day, love all vegetables including brussel sprouts
and beans and talk about "eating healthily like Sportacus"?
Baby Love!
Today I was sitting and working in the same room as Sebastian so that we could play a bit too. Suddenly he pipes up with: “Mummy, you are funny.” “Why am I funny?”, I reply. “Because you laugh all the time and that is funny.” So I said to him, “Well, you make me so happy so that is why I laugh all the time.” “You make me happy so I laugh all the time too……like this" and then he bursts into laughter! What a wee character. I only hope he manages to remember all these lines when he is looking for a girlfriend.
Baby Logic
Playing with his father's tripod, a friend asked the little boy, "do you know what that thing is called?". "No" replied the little boy. "It's called a tripod" said the boy's mother. The friend then asked the boy if he knew why it was called a tripod, to which the boy replied, "no". "Well," said the friend, "tri means three and it has three legs". The little boy pondered over this for a few seconds then replied, "do you know what it is called when it has one leg?". The friend replied that he didn't to which the boy's answer was, "when it has one leg, it is called an ipod." Now, that's pretty good reasoning, even without knowledge of Roman numerals ..... or does he already know those too?!!
